JUAN SOTOMAYOR

Villanueva del Arzobispo, Jaén. 1956

Biography

Juan Sotomayor, born in 1956 in Villanueva del Arzobispo, Jaén, is an artist who initially studied Medicine but devoted himself to his true passion, painting.

He embarked on his artistic career in Zaragoza, where he held his first exhibitions, including a solo exhibition in 1988 at the prestigious Palacio de la Lonja.

In 1988, he moved to Madrid, where he has continued to develop his career with a series of exhibitions both in Spain and abroad. His work is characterized by a meticulous approach that explores the properties of light and its behavior on the surface in a detailed manner.

In recent years, Sotomayor has evolved towards pure abstraction, creating works that feature large fields of color divided into virtual stripes or horizontal openings, with vertical lines revealing lighter tones. This approach invites the viewer to explore the unique relationship between light, color, and perception.
