Jorge Nava (Gijón, 1980) is a Spanish contemporary artist whose work delves into the expressive potential of abstract painting. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Painting from the University of the Basque Country (2000–2006) and furthered his studies with an Erasmus scholarship at Kunsthochschule Berlin Weissensee under the mentorship of Professor Katharina Grosse.
Jorge Nava’s artistic practice is characterized by a gestural, emotional, and intuitive approach to painting. His recent works explore the relationship between the human body and the natural world, reflecting on the cyclical changes of the seasons and their impact on human sensitivity. This thematic exploration culminated in his solo exhibition La piel de la pintura at ARMA Gallery in Madrid in 2025, where he presented a series of abstract paintings that convey the tactile and ephemeral qualities of nature through color and form.
His participation in international art fairs includes ARCO (2010, 2011), CIRCA in Puerto Rico (2007–2009), Scope Art Fair in New York (2008), Photo Miami Art Basel (2006), and ArtMadrid (2016, 2020, 2023). Jorge Nava has also been part of numerous group exhibitions, such as Las cruces del arte in Asturias and Brussels (2008), La huella de España at Museo Casa Obra Pía in Havana, Cuba (2006), and 10 Propuestas de Cerámica Contemporánea en Asturias at the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias in Oviedo (2016).
Among his accolades are the Asturias Young Plastic Arts Award (2007), the AlNorte scholarship leading to a solo exhibition at the Barjola Museum in Gijón (2015), and the second prize at the National Painting Contest Casimiro Baragaño (2021). His works are held in prestigious collections, including the María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation, Alicia Aza Collection, Talens Foundation in Barcelona, and various private collections across Spain, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Germany.
