La Nueva España:”Asturias is a great place to find inspiration, while in Madrid and Barcelona, artists often feel overwhelmed.”

ARMA GALLERY - Contemporary Art - La piel de la pintura - Jorge Nava - Solo Show - Madrid

On the occasion of his solo exhibition La piel de la pintura, Asturian artist Jorge Nava gave an interview to the newspaper La Nueva España, where he reflects on the connection between painting and the changing seasons, the creative energy of the Asturian landscape, and his deeply intuitive artistic process.

In the conversation, published on the opening day of the exhibition at Arma Gallery (Madrid), Nava shares how the passage of time and natural cycles influence his work, often gestural, physical, and defined by the materiality of oil paint. Steering away from figuration and traditional landscape, the artist explores an intimate and subjective pictorial terrain where nature is not depicted, but rather felt.

“The seasons affect me emotionally, and I decided to confront that in my work,” says Nava, who builds his compositions without preliminary sketches, guided by instinct and experimentation. Throughout the interview, he also highlights the advantages of creating from Asturias, a place he sees as more conducive to inspiration and stability than larger cities like Madrid or Barcelona.

The exhibition La piel de la pintura is on view at Arma Gallery (Calle Valverde 30, Madrid) until July 30, 2025.
