BIOGRAPHY

Luis Olaso (Bilbao, 1986) is a visual artist who began as a self-taught creator and later graduated in Art from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). His work bridges expressive figuration and abstraction, producing a dynamic and unique style.

Olaso’s work has been exhibited both individually and collectively with notable galleries, including JD Malat Gallery in London (UK), Makasiini Contemporary in Turku (Finland), Juan Manuel Lumbreras Gallery in Bilbao, Mirat Projects in Madrid, and KUR Gallery in San Sebastián, among others.

He has also participated in numerous international art fairs, such as Zona Maco in Mexico (2022 and 2024), Estampa in Madrid (2021, 2022, 2023), Contemporary Istanbul (2022), Untitled Miami (2019 and 2022), Art Montecarlo (2022), Art Madrid (2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024), and the International Art Biennial of Cerveira, among others.

Olaso’s works are part of major public and private art collections, including the Contemporary Art Foundation in Tokyo by Yusaku Maezawa, SIMCO Foundation by Stefan Simchowitz, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, the VELATIA Collection, the Luis de Morales Collection in Badajoz, and the Santander Creativa Foundation.

His art has been awarded and recognized as a finalist in prestigious competitions, such as the Reina Sofía Painting and Sculpture Prize (2017-2018), the City of Badajoz Painting Prize, the Ibercaja Young Painting Prize, and the Focus International Painting Prize, among others.
